OUR PROGRAMS

An estimated 2 million children between the ages of 7 and 13 years are out-of-school. Almost 70% of children aged 14–17 years are not enrolled in secondary education. A mere 3.2% are enrolled for the final two years of schooling. Equity and quality pose major challenges. WOW Tanzania will find the at risk, gifted and motivated children who we believe can thrive. Using a needs analysis, testing, interviews, and applications, we will choose between 10-25 children per year to support, train, and provide grade school scholarships to. In time we hope to be able to offer scholarships in Science and Technology for higher education as well.

Our goal is to provide focused and targeted science and technology exposure and training to gifted disadvantage children. Teaching and guiding them in operating within a value set promoting equity and integrity. Identifying struggling single mothers and supporting them in becoming self-sustainable.

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY INTRODUCTION TRAINING

SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY INTRODUCTION TRAINING

This is our star course, dedicated to the few at risk but gifted students we identify as having what it takes to succeed in this challenging and competitive field. We are looking for children who although being disadvantaged, are passionate, dedicated, responsible, and clearly displaying leadership qualities. Once we have selected at least 10 participants between the ages of 7-17 years old, we will follow and fully support them through their academic careers, eventually leading to giving scholarships for higher education. Our main goal being to introduce them to careers in science and technology by taking them to classes, lectures, presentations, and programs at institutions, colleges, and universities. We will also invite speakers and volunteer teachers to speak and train them at our office. Of course, thanks to technology like Zoom, we can arrange remote training as well. The sky is the limit with this program. We can organize or participate in science fairs, competitions, and various field trips that can expose the children to different careers and skills that will be needed for their development.

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS

ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS

In Tanzania there are millions of children who aren’t going to school because they just can’t afford it. The monthly wage for the majority of people is around 200 US dollars per month. Public school costs approximately 100 US dollars per year, per child. As one can imagine, lower income people don’t have the money for school, and unfortunately there aren’t any governmental subsidies or initiatives to pick up the slack. This is where programs like ours steps in. We identity and register at risk children and orphans who need scholarships to go to grade school and high school. After establishing relationships with their family and schools, we will directly pay their yearly fees and educational expenses like school clothes and books, until graduation. This program will also be competitive and given to the students showing the highest levels of motivation and academic potential through either testing or past scholastic performance, while also taking into consideration their home-life situation. The evaluations might also involve referals from teachers, councilors, or churches etc.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP & BUSINESS TRAINING

ENTREPRENEURSHIP & BUSINESS TRAINING

In the same vein as above, each teacher will teach the skill that they have acquired in their various careers. As a former Accountant, Apostle Betsie will be teaching how to start a business. Here in Tanzania, there are many opportunites to make money, but many people lack ideas and know-how. That’s where the short courses come in. We will help participants explore money making business ideas and hold their hands through the process of developing those ideas and skills needed to succeed. These classes will be for small groups and the training highly specialized, depending on the needs of the community, which could change from one season to another. Some examples of possible classes we could propose depending on need: clothes making, pottery, import and export, digital marketing, sales, customer service, and eventually computer classes. The target group for entrepreneurship training is working age widows and single mothers from disadvantaged and deprived communities. The classes will be conducted once a week over a 6 week period and consist of a theoretical and practical component. Business English classes will be available to everyone in the entrepreneurship training courses to help them reach out to international clients and tourists. Classes will be 1.5 hours, once a week.
